4 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari & Golden Monkeys
On this 4 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari and golden monkeys tour will take you to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda where you will see the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Volcanoes national park is a popular home for mountain gorillas in Rwanda, as well as the elusive golden monkeys. Trekking gorillas in Volcanoes national park involves walking through the thick forest, on slippery slopes, having to pave your way through as well as dodging thorny trees, but on encountering the mighty apes, the experience is worth every step taken.
Here you are also able to track the golden monkeys. This is the only park in Rwanda where you can track both the mighty silver-backs as well as the elusive golden monkeys. A mixture of these experiences is something not easily attained everywhere. Visit the popular Iby’iwachu cultural village that displays all the three Rwanda’s Ethnic groups in one center.

Having had a delicious breakfast, start your journey to Volcanoes national park the prime destination for gorilla trekking in Rwanda. The park also homes several golden monkeys that can easily be trekked. The journey gives you clearer views of the Virunga Mountains and the thousand hills of Rwanda. You will come across the beautiful people of Rwanda, with some waving at you with huge smiles and the amazing scenery of the rolling hills of Rwanda.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Early morning at 7am, after having your breakfast at the lodge head to the park headquarters for a simple briefing from the tour guide.
Be divided into groups of eight people to trek one gorilla family. Trekking these endangered apes involves walking into the jungle in search of the mighty apes in their natural setting. Hiking through the thick forest, having to hold onto tree branches for support and pave your way through the forest with your hands or a hand stick, the experience is simply thrilling.
Trekking the gorillas would take 1-8 hours depending on the luck of the trekkers. One group would trek for one hour and then find the gorillas and the other spends the whole day in the forest and still not find them.
On encountering them, spend one magical hour with the great gorillas, watching them conduct their daily lives, spot the juveniles play from one tree branch to another and also the silverbacks aggressively watch over their family members.
You are advised to go with packed lunch and at least 2 liters of drinking water because the trek can take a full day or less than that. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and ibyiwachu cultural center
In the morning at 8am after breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a simple briefing about the trek and then start on the move through the forest in search of the stunning golden monkeys. Watch the gold meeting the silver in one home, running up in the high forest canopies as they swing from one tree branch to another. The experience is extremely exceptional.
Later on after lunch, visit the famous Ib’yiwachu cultural village that gathers together all the three ethnic groups of Rwanda in only one stop point. Engage in the traditional dances performed here. A taste of the local cuisine is a guarantee except to those that don’t want. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure
Early morning after breakfast, embark on the safari vehicle and then head back to Kigali to either fly back home or relaxation at the lodge of your choice.
